Identity (Culture, Religion and Media)

Identity is an individual’s perception of what he or she sees. Different forms of identity exist in different minds. Our perceptions are molded by our environment and influences throughout our lives. The major agent of influence in modern society has been the media. In the context of influence the World Wide Web has been able to reach audiences that were previously in-exesible. The dangers inherent are those that control these forms of information have the power through influence to shape the lives of large parts of society.
Britain is now a multi cultural society. People have the freedom to practice any belief and continue to enjoy their culture without prejudice. This is not to say that these freedoms are congruent with the views of certain individuals.
Culture plays a big part in a person’s life, every single individual has been bought up differently in terms of his or her religion, ethnicity and traditional roots which date back thousands of years. This affects the way in which we look at the world around us. Having grown up in Britain as someone who comes from a ethnic background, they may lose traces of where they are originally from, they become a part of the western cultured society therefore many are distracted from finding out who they really are.
Plan B – ill manners, these song lyrics represent council estates and rough living within urban areas and how attitudes from growing up in a rough environment effect the way in which the younger generation express their suffering to the rest of the world.  “What you looking at you little rich boy?
We're poor 'round here, run home and lock your door!Don't come 'round here no more, you could get robbed forreal (yeah) because my manors ill” Plan B.  From these lyrics you get an understanding of how living within surroundings where theirs low income, children are forced to grow up and survive off what they can get hold of.

Overall identity plays a major part within an individual’s life as it shapes their personalities and opinions of how they view the world.
